Not easy to deal with on a laptop. Not sure why external reacted so differently but it still didn't work. Are you mean the WLAN or not of can the contact of the cables the cause be. Still feel the same, that the video module is the dell likely culprit. RAM doesn't spring to mind for the symptoms given but if RAM is easy to access then there is nothing lost by taking it out dsll cleaning the edge connectors with a soft pencil eraser.
